Research guide, not a hands-on review. We used public vendor documentation and our own cost model; we have not run a live-store migration or measured revenue or deliverability results. Commercial buttons currently use direct official links, not paid tracking links.

OUR VERDICT IS CONDITIONAL

Keep the existing setup when its important workflows work and the alternative has not been verified. Shortlist Omnisend when its quote and your own workflow checks suggest a better fit. Neither the brand name nor a lower headline price settles the question.

For a team of one to five people, maintainability is a feature. The right comparison asks who can run next month’s campaigns, recover a broken automation, and explain the invoice.

What the current documentation actually says

Billing and trial differences to check before migrating
QuestionKlaviyoOmnisend
Who counts?Active email profiles include subscribers and some contacts from general engagement. Suppressed profiles are excluded from email billing; see the active-profile guide.Subscriber and non-subscriber contacts count; unsubscribers are excluded under the published billing rules.
What can I try free?Up to 250 active profiles and 500 email sends a month; current free-plan details also list $5 of mobile messages, subject to region/carrier conditions.Up to 500 emails a month to 250 unique contacts. Free is a limited trial workload, not the budget for a larger list.
Is SMS part of the email plan?Price your email and mobile-message requirements separately in the plan builder; do not treat a free mobile allowance as a full SMS budget. For paid subscriptions started on or after May 4, 2026, SMS requires Pro and a separate purchase. Standard does not support SMS for these subscribers.
Which email limit matters? The active-profile guide describes email limits of 10 times the plan’s maximum profile allowance. Confirm your particular plan and any custom terms.Standard includes 12 times the contact count in email credits per cycle. Pro advertises unlimited email, subject to fair use.
The comparison that can mislead you

Comparing an email-only Standard plan with a setup that needs SMS is not a like-for-like decision. Quote the actual channels and required features first. Billing eligibility does not itself grant marketing consent.

Define one job for both providers

Write a brief before requesting prices: storefront, markets, monthly campaigns, automated sends, SMS destinations, consent records, required integrations, and the reports used to make decisions. Send the same brief to each provider. Keep screenshots or written quotes with their dates.

What 5,000, 10,000, or 20,000 contacts changes

List size alone is not a complete usage specification. Four full-list campaigns to 5,000 reachable people imply 20,000 campaign sends; at 10,000 people, 40,000; at 20,000, 80,000. These arithmetic examples exclude automations, resends, SMS, and delivery failures. They are not vendor pricing tiers.

Ask for a quote at your current billable count and your plausible six-month count. Then add expected automation volume. Do not publish or trust a price comparison that uses different sending requirements or different contract terms on each side.

Three defensible outcomes

1. Keep Klaviyo and simplify the bill

Your flows and integrations work, and the migration would absorb more value than it creates. Review unused capacity and add-ons with the invoice audit. You do not have to switch to make a better decision.

2. Test Omnisend with an explicit acceptance bar

The quote is attractive and your essential requirements appear covered. Validate forms, data, workflows, and reporting before deciding. Do not run two live versions of the same automation simply to compare them.

3. Do neither until the requirements are clear

If consent records are unreliable, integrations are undocumented, or nobody owns email operations, choosing another provider will not resolve the underlying problem.

Include the transition in the decision

The 12-month cost calculator includes work, overlap, add-ons, introductory rates, and one future tier change. Use it as a cost scenario—not a score that overrides missing features or uncertain deliverability.
